The Cameroonian joined Inter Milan in 2022

Inter Milan's goalkeeper Andre Onana is only the third African goalkeeper to play in a European Cup final. He joins an elite list of two goalkeepers who have already won the crown.

Andre Onana has been the number-one choice in front of the goal for Inter Milan this season. The 27-year-old goalkeeper from Cameroon joined the Italian giants this season. He has been sensational at the back for the Nerrazurri this season. His nine clean sheets and 45 saves in 13 UEFA Champions League appearances have taken Inter Milan to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

With nine clean sheets, Andre Onana has kept the most by any goalkeeper in this season's competition. He will surely be the choice for the goalkeeping spot in the UCL Team of the Season.

Two other goalkeepers have played in a European final before Andre Onana. Former Liverpool goalkeeper and legend, Bruce Grobbelaar and Chelsea's goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy. Both players led their sides to European glories in the respective finals.

Bruce Grobbelaar (Zimbabwe & Liverpool) - 1984

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar played the 1984 European Cup final against Italian side, Roma. The match went to penalties after a 1-1 score at the end of 120 minutes of play. Liverpool won the match on penalties 4-2 and lifted the title. Bruce Grobbelaar played some mind games with the opponents and two failed to convert their spot kick.

The Zimbabwean made 628 appearances for the Reds and won six first-division titles. He also took Liverpool to three FA Cup wins. Grobbelaar won all the major honours of his career at Liverpool

Edouard Mendy (Senegal & Chelsea) - 2021

Edouard Mendy is still a Chelsea player but has gone out of favour at the Bridge. The 31-year-old joined the Blues in 2020 from Rennes and won the UEFA Champions League in his first season. Mendy became the second African goalkeeper to play a European final and win the trophy. Chelsea defeated Manchester City in the final.

Andre Onana has a chance to add a fourth European title to Inter's trophy cabinet. African goalkeepers have taken their sides to glory and Onana will also look to do the same.
