This was their ninth domestic cup final

Eintracht Frankfurt had a chance to finish the year on a high note, but they were powerless to accomplish so after falling to RB Leipzig 2-0 in the DFB Pokal final. This indicates that they last won a prize during the 2017–18 season, which was the German Cup.

For a long stretch of the game, they managed to contain RB Leipzig and limit their threat, but Leipzig’s individual talent proved too much for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The top scorer in the Bundesliga, Christopher Nkunku, discovered a way to offer Leipzig an advantage in the 71st minute, just as it seemed the game was coming to an end.

Frankfurt was forced to take a backseat and temper Leipzig’s attack as Leipzig began to appear more dangerous, pushing Frankfurt back.

The game took some time for Leipzig to settle down, but when Dominik Szoboszlai scored his second goal, they displayed their true attacking intent.

The opposition had a disappointing night because they gave up blood and sweat to get to the final, but it concluded badly.

Eintracht Frankfurt will nonetheless draw encouragement from their league performance, given that they qualified for the European Conference League despite finishing seventh in the league.

They also won the Europa League last year, but they seek to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign as several of their top players are expected to leave the organisation.

Eintracht Frankfurt have played nine DFB-Pokal finals. They have won five, with the latest win coming in the 2017-18 season.
