The Argentine scored a goal against Australia in an international friendly

According to director Jorge Mas, Inter Miami CF are planning for Lionel Messi to make his debut on July 21 against Cruz Azul in a Leagues Cup encounter.

Although a deal has not yet been signed, Messi, 35, stated earlier this month that he plans to join Miami after departing the Ligue 1 giants.

The club will not receive direct support from Major League Soccer (MLS), according to managing owner Mas, who spoke at length with a select group of media, including the Miami Herald.

"no rules are being changed to incorporate Messi on to Inter Miami's roster."

"As you may recall, Argentina trained in Miami before they flew over to Doha [for 2022 World Cup], where we had an opportunity to see some of the Messi mania at our doors on an everyday basis during practice. So, we're very prepared. We've been getting ready for this," Mas claimed.

When Messi will make his debut for Inter Miami?

Messi is expected to make his debut on July 21st against Mexican side Cruz Azul. The six-time Ballon d'Or winner is currently on holiday in his home town of Rosario.

According to Mas, Miami is making preparations for Messi's arrival, including efforts to expand their stadium's seating capacity by about 3,000 seats to 22,000 in order to accommodate him. Players' safety will be better protected during both home and away games.

Mas also asserted that Lionel Messi's addition to Miami will be significant and will lift the popularity of soccer in the USA.

"I think there will always be a 'before and after Messi' when we talk about the sport in the United States," he said. "I cannot overemphasise the magnitude of this announcement.

Having the world's greatest player here is something that is significant for our league, and for the football ecosystem in the United States ... Lionel Messi is coming to this country to win cups and make a difference. I think it's incumbent upon myself and my partners in the league, the other owners, to seize the moment."
