Inter Milan's Champions League hopes end with 1-0 defeat in final

Simone Inzaghi loses his first cup final as a manager
Inter Milan lost their third European final after their match ended 1-0 against the eventual winners, Manchester City. The Premier League champions also completed a treble by winning the UEFA Champions League 2022-23 title. They become the second English club to win three major trophies in a season.
Simone Inzaghi's men tried to stop Manchester City but Rodri found the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute. The game opened a bit after that. Federico Dimarco struck the crossbar with a header and Inter began to shift the momentum to the opposition's half. City controlled the match and lifted their first UCL trophy.
Both teams came out with plans in the first half. Pep Guardiola kept Kyle Walker on the bench and this was a tactical switch by the Spanish manager. Inter Milan began with Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko in the attack. Henrik Mkhitaryan was also left on the bench. The Italian side was a rock in the defence and their tactics paid off. Manchester City were unable to break through and the half ended 0-0. Kevin De Bruyne also left the pitch injured.
The Italian side were part of Group C in the early stages. Inter Milan finished second and behind Bayern Munich. Simone Inzaghi's men won three, played one draw, and lost both ties against Bayern Munich. Inter managed to score ten and conceded seven goals. They even knocked out Barcelona from the competition.
Inter Milan faced Porto in their next round. Romelu Lukaku's only goal in the first leg handed his side a 1-0 win (aggregate) in both legs. In their quarterfinal match, Inter once again faced a Portuguese opponent. After winning the first leg 2-0 away at Benfica, Inzaghi's men played a thrilling 3-3 draw in the second leg. The tie ended 5-3 in favour of the Italian side.
Then came Inter's arch-rivals AC Milan in the semifinal. The Nerrazurri's won the first tie 2-0 away and became the favourites to reach the final. Inter Milan also won the second leg 1-0 to book a place in Istanbul.
This was Inter's third defeat in a European final. The match ended 1-0 and Manchester City kept their strong defensive record. The Italian side finished third in Serie A and are guaranteed Champions League football next season.
