According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are making headway in negotiations with RB Leipzig to sign Dominik Szoboszlai.

Following a poor 2022–23 season, the Reds will continue their quest for new midfielders during this transfer window.

They are still interested in Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich despite having already acquired Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

This week, 90min claimed that the Reds had spoken with Szoboszlai's agents about a potential summer transfer.

Due to the size of his £60 million release provision, there was initially some doubt that a deal could be completed with RB Leipzig, but it is believed that negotiations are moving forward and Liverpool are optimistic about reaching an agreement on a price closer to the £50 million figure.

Having completed several moves in the past, particularly those of Takumi Minamino from Salzburg and Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate from Leipzig, Liverpool have an excellent connection with the teams in the Red Bull system.

On Friday, RB Leipzig and Fabio Carvalho's season-long loan agreement became official. The discussions around this deal and those surrounding Szoboszlai have been kept apart.

In addition to wanting to recruit Szoboszlai, Newcastle United additionally showed curiosity about James Maddison, who ultimately chose to play with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies have withdrawn from the competition for the Hungary international, sources have claimed. But they will soon add a midfielder, as Milan's Sandro Tonali has already joined the club for a club-record fee.
