Luis Enrique in advanced talks with PSG over manager's position

Christophe Galtier was sacked after just one season with the club

Advanced negotiations over Luis Enrique being PSG's new manager are now underway.

Following the failure of Paris Saint-Germain's negotiations with Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, who resigned from his position as Spain's coach following the World Cup in December, was picked as the favourite to succeed Christophe Galtier.

As he nears a return to club administration for the first time after exiting Barcelona in 2017, it is thought that the 53-year-old is anticipating reaching an agreement on the terms in the upcoming days.

Although the terms of the negotiations have not yet been settled, the Spanish manager is reportedly now talking about the make-up of his backroom team and may be introduced as PSG's next manager this week.

This week, they had been said to be considering a request for Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, but they seem to have decided on Luis Enrique instead, who was also a candidate to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

Sérgio Conceiço, the manager of Porto, and Marcelo Gallardo, the former coach of River Plate and the favourites to take charge at Marseille, were also mentioned in relation to the open position at PSG.

In the meantime, following last week's declaration that he would not sign a contract extension, Kylian Mbappé has confirmed his resolve to see out his deal with the French champions. Prior to Monday's meeting between France and Greece, Mbappé spoke to Téléfoot.

"I have already said before that I’d stay [at PSG]. I have only decided to play at PSG next season. Many things can happen in a year, especially at a club like PSG."
