Manchester United submit third improved bid of £55m for Mason Mount

The Blues demand £65 million for their midfielder

In an effort to secure the midfielder, Manchester United made a third offer for Mason Mount, which is around £50m plus £5m add-ons.

It follows that Chelsea rebuffed their second offer of £45 million plus £5 million in add-ons and responded by asking for £60 million plus £5 million in bonuses.

The Times claims that Erik ten Hag's team has offered a lesser amount than the asking cost because they believe Chelsea's valuation is "too high" for a player who is going to be out of an agreement next summer.

In addition, they assert that if United's proposed agreement is rejected, they are prepared to "walk away" from the talks because other resources will be needed to find a new striker and custodian.

Mount has been a top priority acquisition for Erik Ten Hag this summer, and United are doing everything it can within their budgetary limitations to make the transaction happen.

Yet, there is a perception that Chelsea's initial £70 million asking price is excessive for a player that may go for free the following year. Manchester United are hesitant to offer Mount more than their upcoming £55 million bid.

Numerous elite European teams, especially Bayern Munich, are keeping a close eye on Mount's destiny this summer and are prepared to sign him in January if he fails to decide to join the Red Devils.

Although reaching an agreement on a compromise with Manchester United this summer is thought to be the best course of action for both sides, Chelsea's main objective this summer is to sell players after last season's £600 million shopping spree.
