He could become the highest earner for the Red Devils

Marcus Rashford is about to agree to a brand-new, lengthy contract with Manchester United. The player and the team are currently in the closing phases of talks.

The new salary would follow the 25-year-old's most productive season, in which he scored 30 goals across all competitions.

The forward, who was born and raised in Manchester, is prepared to accept the offer, although the last few elements still need to be worked out.

Marcus Rashford would surpass David de Gea as the highest-paid player at the club with a staggering £375,000 per week, as de Gea would be subject to a salary reduction if he decides to remain at Old Trafford.

He would move beyond Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial, and Bruno Fernandes.

The fact that Rashford received a new contract offer shows how important he is to Ten Hag's future ambitions after recovering from a disappointing 2021-22 in which he only scored five goals.

The Dutchman has remarked before that he believes the product of the youth programme is "capable of scoring 40 goals in a season."

Manchester United hopes a new contract will help fight off transfer market speculators. Other elite clubs have been reported to have eyed Rashford, particularly Paris Saint-Germain, whose £400,000-per-week contract he rejected last summer.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils intend to effectively swap Marcus Rashford and David De Gea's contracts, with the troubled goalkeeper's pay being reduced from £375,000 per week to the striker's current salary of £200,000.

David De Gea's future at United is apparently uncertain, and managers there are now focusing on David Raya of Brentford since the Spaniard is putting the brakes on the London club's decision to release him.
