Nacho set to become Real Madrid club captain

He has won five Champions League with the club

Nacho Fernandez is expected to extend his contract and is set to inherit the armband following the departure of Karim Benzema. 

After Marcelo left the team last summer, the Frenchman took over, and he also tied the Brazilian for the most titles won at the club (25).

The length of time a player has played at the club determines their place in the hierarchy of the Madrid armband. If Nacho agrees to extend his contract with Real Madrid, he would become the next captain under this criterion at the age of 33.

When he was still a member of Real Madrid Castilla, the defender made his debut on April 23, 2011, in a 3-6 victory against Valencia at Mestalla. In his current 318 games for Madrid, 18 of them were as captain.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Nacho Fernandez, a defender for Real Madrid, is close to signing a new deal that will secure his future with the organisation.

With a new deal on the horizon, the Spaniard's 22-year relationship with Los Blancos will continue for at least one more season.

Several players were anticipated to leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer, and Inter Milan formally made a bid to sign Nacho.

Due to disagreements between the parties on the length of the deal, Nacho's negotiations for a contract extension with Madrid earlier fell through.

Although he was in the latter stages of his career, the Spaniard desired a long-term contract, but Los Blancos were hesitant to agree to his terms.

However, an arrangement between the two parties will allow Nacho to continue his two-decade journey with the illustrious Spanish club. For several months, they have been engaged in discussions with the excellent centre-back, but to no avail.
