Dutch star Quincy Promes 'sentenced to 18 months in prison' for stabbing his cousin

The Dutch international has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently

Spartak Moscow striker Quincy Promes was adjudged convicted of violence by a Dutch court and given an 18-month jail term.

The 31-year-old was involved in a confrontation in 2020 during which he wounded his cousin in the knee, but he was never charged with attempting to kill or manslaughter.

Prosecutors in the Netherlands believe there is adequate proof against Quincy Promes to warrant a jail sentence despite the fact that he has consistently denied the allegations.

The 50-cap international striker was not present when the verdict was handed out in his country, and it is unknown if he will ever travel back.

Quincy Promes is currently a resident of Russia due to a contract he has with Spartak Moscow. After hearing from two eyewitnesses and having chats on his phone found, he was given a jail term.

Quincy Promes is additionally forced to pay his victim €7,000 in restitution. Promes previously worked for Ajax and Sevilla.

The court ruled that had Promes visited the trial in question and displayed any regret, his sentence would have been less severe—about six months less in custody.

Promes has the right to appeal his conviction, and he will also eventually go on trial for alleged drug trafficking charges.
