Saudi Arabia 'withdraw' from race to host FIFA World Cup 2030

Saudi Arabia have withdrawn thier bid

According to reports, Saudi Arabia have withdrawn their ambition of jointly hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2030.

According to Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz, they have abandoned their plans to jointly organise the international competition in 2030. Egypt and Greece joined the Saudis in a combined effort to host the prestigious competition in 2030.

According to The Sun, Egypt did, however, declare their departure from the joint bid in April. According to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, the Saudis decided to get out because they think that "football's premier international competition" should be held in Europe.

Early this year, a combined bid combining Saudi Arabia, Greece, and Egypt emerged. Greece apparently received a guarantee from Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud that he would pay for the necessary stadiums.

According to reports, 75% of the matches at the 2030 FIFA World Cup would have taken place in Saudi Arabia. It seems that they are currently considering the decision not to host the competition at all.

That's irrespective of the significant financial investment they made this summer in European talent. In January, Cristiano Ronaldo moved to the Middle East and signed a deal with Al Nassr worth reportedly €200 million a year.

Since then, Ronaldo has been joined in Saudi Arabia by Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, and Ruben Neves.

The Iberian proposal, which is a combined proposal by Spain, Portugal, and Ukraine, is one of the other countries competing for the 2030 World Cup.

Along with Morocco, other South American countries Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay are organising a combined bid.
