How the Villans could line-up for the upcoming Premier League campaign

The last season was no short of a roller coaster for Aston Villa- a story of two halves, some would say. From being in the relegation battle, earlier on, under Steven Gerrard. To being on the verge of sneaking into the top six, later on, under Unai Emery.

Although it sheds greater light on Unai Emery's excellency but nothing can be taken away from the players. They shrugged off their blemishes and shortcomings from the initial stages of the season, and came out all guns blazing in the second half of the 2022-23 season. Making it one of the decent seasons in a while for the fans and for themselves, as they nab out a UEFA Europa Conference League spot at the end.

Now, as the new season nears, the Villans get ready to lineup strength for strength. The Birmingham based club have already made their intentions clear, as they have secured three excellent signings to rev up their squad for the new season. Youri Tielemans from the relegated Leicester side. Pau Torres a well-reputed centre-back from Villarreal. And, recently signing Moussa Diaby from Leverkusen was the cherry on the cake for Emery and his rebuild project for the new season.

Let's take a look at how Aston Villa could lineup for the new season, with all the additions in place.

Emi Martinez- Goalkeeper

Emi Martinez's journey after leaving Arsenal two summers ago has been nothing short of remarkable. Once considered a mere second-choice benchwarmer, his career appeared to be fading away. However, through sheer determination and hard work, he underwent a miraculous revival.

Today, he stands as a World Cup-winning goalkeeper, earning acclaim as one of the finest keepers on the planet. His exceptional performance led him to scoop the prestigious Golden Glove at Qatar 2022.

Alex Moreno- Left Back

Considering how the latter half of the 2022-23 season shaped out for Aston Villa, it might be safe to say that Emery's first choice left back would be Alex Moreno. Bought from Real Betis in the January transfer market, the 30-year-old soon became one of the bigger faces at the club, contributing majorly in the club's good run of form later on.

Ezri Konsa - Centre Back

Ezri Konsa had a difficult season last campaign. But this could be the redemption campaign for the 25-year-old centre half.

Under Emery's guidance, he could make an impressive comeback, showcasing a revitalized performance and be the perfect pair for new signing Pau Torres.

Pau Torres- Centre Back

Pau Torres and Emery, who spent two years together in Spain's Villarreal, will reunite at Aston Villa this summer. Torres, a three-time Europa League winner, has 23 caps for Spain, offering defensive strength and composure in possession, qualities Emery desires.

Matty Cash- Right Back

Matty Cash, known for his prowess as a right-back, proudly dons the claret and blue jersey of Villa and represents Poland in red and white. His versatility and exceptional abilities make him a crucial asset for any team he plays for. With all the qualities of a modern fullback, he consistently impressed Emery, securing a solid spot in their starting line-up.

Boubacar Kamara- Defensive Mid

The 23-year-old Frenchman is a jewel of a football talent at Aston Villa. Boubacar Kamara joined the team from Marseille last summer for free, and in the 24 matches that he featured in for the Villans he was no less than a monster. With 85% pass completion rate, one assist, and a 57% successful dribble rate. He excels in both aerial and ground duels, making him a reliable defensive presence on the pitch.

Youri Tielemans- Centre Mid

Signing Youri Tielemans for free is a great achievement for Villa. Usually, players like him cost millions, but they got him without any fee. He's skilled and can play all over the field- like a box-to-box midfielder, making him valuable in Villa's mission to break into the top six teams. Coming from Leicester and with European experience, Tielemans can prove to be a big asset.

Jacob Ramsey- Centre Midfielder

Jacob Ramsey is living a premium midfielder's dream of getting picked week-in week-out. No matter who is in-charge of the club they just have to pick the youngster in their potential XI. He's quick on the break, has the vision and most importantly, he has the composure to finish off chances.

Leon Bailey- Left Winger

Initially a slow-burner at Aston Villa, Leon Bailey, the Jamaican international, eventually found his stride. He went on to become a key player, featuring in 33 out of 38 Premier League games in a season. Impressively, he made eight goal contributions during this period, showcasing his growing impact on the team's performance.

Moussa Diaby- Right Winger

Diaby is one of Europe's best players at making runs behind defences, with or without the ball. His speed and sharp movement often catch defenders off guard. He's also skilled at running with the ball, making quick changes of direction. Having completed a move to Aston Villa, it has just added to the fiery and fast paced attack of the Villans for the upcoming season.

Ollie Watkins- Striker

Under Gerrard, Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins had to compete for the striker position. Gerrard seemed unsure of his favorite choice.

After Gerrard left, Ollie Watkins got the chance to be the main striker, and he did well. When Emery took over, Watkins scored 14 out of his 15 goals. He could be the one to watchout for in the Premier League 2023-24 season.
