Australia announce squad for FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023

The Matildas play their eighth consecutive World Cup
Australia qualified as the co-host for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. This will be their eighth appearance on the big stage.
The Matildas failed to qualify for the inaugural World Cup. Since then they have made it to every edition and reached the round of 16 in the 2019 edition.
Their best finish at the biggest stage has been in 2007, 2011 and 2015. Australia Women national team made it to the quarterfinals in these three editions.
With the World Cup just around the corner, coach Tony Gustavsson has selected the 23-player squad.
Clare Polkinghorne is the most experienced player on the roster with more than 150 international caps. Emily van Egmond, Tameka Yallop, Alanna Kennedy and Caitlin Foord are the other players who have played more than 100 games for their country.
The hosts have a strong squad with a few players showing their talent in Europe. With home support behind their back this time, Australian women will be high on confidence heading into the 2022-23 edition.
The Matildas are placed in Group B along with the Republic of Ireland women, Nigeria women and Canadian women.
