The Spaniard has refused to sign a new contract at the club

Bundesliga champions Bayern München are said to be in pursuit of Brentford goalkeeper and Spaniard David Raya. He is a said to be on top of the list of candidates to replace outgoing goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who is linked with a move to the San Siro to play for Inter Milan.

David Raya made it to the Premier League in 2019, when he joined Brentford from Blackburn Rovers. Since then, he has made 161 appearances for The Bees.

David Raya has been linked with a move away from Brentford from the beginning of the transfer window. He attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs like Chelsea, and more concretively, from Tottenham and Manchester United. However, Raya himself rejected the two contract offers and both clubs went in different directions signing Guglielmo Vicario and Andre Onana respectively.

David Raya himself stated that he is “ready to take the next step in his career”. Bayern München have shown considerable interest in him and are expected top come up with an offer. It is reported that Brentford value him at £40 million, and are ready to keep him  if their valuation is not met.

If this scenario unfolds, Brentford will have three goalkeepers in their squad consisting of Raya, Thomas Strakosha and newly signed keeper Mark Flekker.

David Raya is currently with Brentford as a part of their squad for the Premier League summer series. However, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has preferred new signing Mark Flekker in the recent games against Fulham and Brighton.

Raya signed for Brentford in 2019 and has one year left on his contract. However, with Brentford signing new goalkeepers, it is likely for him to move this summer as Bayern are the third club to show interest in him.

Speaking of the whole situation, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said that Raya was “the talk of the town” and it is a “big privilege” for Brentford to have two quality keepers in Raya and Flekker. However, he admitted that Raya could still leave this summer.
