Brazil announce squad for FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

The South American team are in search of their first title

Brazil's women's national team will be playing their ninth straight FIFA Women's World Cup. The 2007 edition runners-up are searching for their first title. Their manager Pia Sundhage has named the 23 players that will feature in the 2023 edition to be held in Australia and New Zealand.

After an exit in the round of 16 of the 2015 and 2019 editions, Brazilian women will look for a better finish this time around.

Marta will make it to her sixth straight Women's World Cup. The 37-year-old legend has announced that she will retire at the end of the tournament. She will lead her side and hope to add a gold medal after missing it in the 2007 edition.

The coach said, "Marta is the queen, she is an icon. Just being around her is contagious."

"If she will be in the starting lineup I don't know, not yet. She will play the role I will give her and I am sure she will do well."

Debinha, Tamires and Andressa Alves will add experience to this team.

The South American nation is placed in Group F alongside Panama, France, and Jamaica. Sundhage's women will face Panama in the opener on 24 July. They play France next on 29 July and then Jamaica in the last group game on 2 August.
