CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023: USA, Mexico, Panama and Jamaica qualify for semifinals
This is the 17th edition of the tournament
Jamaica and the USA joined Panama and Mexico in the semifinal stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023. The United States will play Panama in the first semifinal, while Jamaica faces Mexico in the second semifinal.
Panama became the first team to reach the last four after a dominant 4-0 win over the invited nation, Qatar. Mexico joined them after winning 2-0 in the quarterfinals against Costa Rica.
Jamaica booked their spot after a narrow 1-0 win over Guatemala. The USMNT had to work hard against Canada to earn a spot in the last four. Their match ended 2-2 and went to penalties. Brian Callaghan and his men won 3-2 on penalties.
This is the 17th edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Mexico have been the most dominant side with eight titles, followed by the USA with seven. Canada is the only other nation to lift the trophy. Additionally, the USMNT and Mexico have made it to the last four for the 16th time in their history.
Two-times runners-up Jamaica reached the semifinal stage for the sixth time. They face Mexico, the most successful team in the competition.
Panama makes their fourth appearance in the last four. They reached the finals twice, in 2005 and 2013, only to lose to their soon-to-be opponents, the United States. Both of these teams clash for the second time in the last four.
Jesus Ferreira of the United States is the leading goal scorer with six to his name. Panama's Ismael Diaz is behind him with four goals to his name.
The United States also have the best scoring record in this year's Gold Cup. The team has scored 15 goals and conceded three in four games. Jamaica and Mexico have only conceded two goals, and this is the best defensive record in the 2023 edition.
The first semifinal will take place at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California. The second semifinal match will be hosted at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
