Famous rapper Jay-Z interested in buying Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs owner Joe Lewis has been charged with fraud and insider trading

As reported by the Daily Express, if Tottenham Hotspur's chairman is found guilty of fraud and insider trading, a close financial friend, Jay-Z, is ready to make a bid for the club.

The 53-year-old rap icon, who has a net worth of more than £1.95 billion, is supported by a group of US investors who are anxiously awaiting news on Spurs manager Joe Lewis.

13 years have passed since Jay-Z first indicated an interest in investing heavily in Arsenal, a rival team from North London.

He admitted that Thierry Henry, his favourite player at the time, had turned him into a passionate fan of the team.

That proposal was unsuccessful, but Jay-Z, who is already a co-owner of the top NBA basketball team, the New Jersey Nets, stated at the time: "I don't know a lot about the business of football, but in the future, if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?"

His acquaintance claimed that the hip-hop mogul, whose wife Beyoncé is thought to have a personal fortune worth £420 million, is still crazy in Love with England's "beautiful game" in the words of their hit song.

They stated: "With the global reach of Spurs, Jay would jump at the prospect of a controlling interest at board level someplace. More than a handful of the very top clubs there, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea, are now under US ownership.

“It remains to be seen whether Mr Lewis will walk away free. If he doesn’t, Jay has said he wants to be in a position to move quickly if he feels the price is right.” Spurs’ estimated market value has risen slightly this year to £2.18billion – a sum well within reach for Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.

“He believes this is achievable, especially with the backing of fellow investors.”

In a courtroom in New York last week, Mr Lewis, 86, who grew up above a drinking establishment in East London and built up assets of over five billion dollars through currency trading, showed up to deny 16 counts of securities theft and three additional conspiracy charges related to stated "insider trading" offences between 2013 and 2021. The maximum term for each offence is five to 25 years in prison.
