Liverpool set to make shock move for Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips
Manchester City barely had received game time last season
In light of Fabinho's impending £40 million departure to Saudi Arabia, Liverpool might pursue a deal for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
Al-Ittihad made an offer to the Reds on Friday, and Fabinho was recently given the go-ahead to get medical and complete the deal's formalities.
The 29-year-old is anticipated to become part of the Saudi Pro League team and has not flown with Jurgen Klopp's team to their preseason training session in Germany.
Liverpool have been searching for an alternative for the former Monaco player in the interim. Phillips is reportedly one of the players the Reds are considering, according to Sky Sports.
According to the report, they are also keeping an eye on Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich and Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina.
Phillips had a difficult time getting into the game during his first season at City, making just 21 appearances across all leagues as Pep Guardiola's team won the treble.
In actuality, the 27-year-old made only four starts in games, with Rodri taking his place as the defensive midfielder.
The former Leeds midfielder wants to stay at the Etihad but could be moved due to interest from Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle.
If Liverpool are successful in crossing a line, it will be over two years since Klopp used a unique strategy to halt Phillips.
Phillips was available to sign for Liverpool this past summer, but they decided against it so he could join City. Although it seemed a very "easy" transfer to execute, the Reds turned down the chance to sign the midfielder.
Additionally, they rejected Yves Bissouma and Youri Tielemans; in the end, however, they settled on signing Juventus star Arthur on a season-long loan deal.
