Manchester United continue Andre Onana's pursuit after Inter rejected first bid

The Italian club demand more than £50 million

The Serie A club spurned Manchester United's starting offer of £39 million for Inter Milan custodian Andre Onana.

After acquiring Mason Mount in a £60 million deal from Chelsea, United manager Erik ten Hag has set his former Ajax No. 1 as his next objective in the transfer market.

Andre Onana is prepared to transfer to Old Trafford, but talks will continue because Inter are demanding more than £50 million.

The initial bid from Manchester United was £35 million plus £4 million in add-ons. Onana was a target for Chelsea, but they have now lost confidence in the 27-year-old.

David de Gea's position remains under scrutiny due to interest in Onana after his contract with the club expired last week.

Although Manchester United maintain that talks with their long-term starting quarterback are still ongoing, the Spain international has vented his dissatisfaction on social media with the convoluted process.

De Gea, who made £375,000 a week as United's highest-paid player, is being urged to reduce his pay. Onana's arrival would put his position as United's top choice in jeopardy.

In order to recruit Dean Henderson, Nottingham Forest must wait for United's custodian dilemma to be resolved.

Currently, if United do not sign either Onana or De Gea, they may start the upcoming season with Henderson as their starting custodian.

After finding a custodian, United will then attempt to add a striker, with Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta at the top of their shortlist.

Due to continued worries regarding past Financial Fair Play performance, it is uncertain whether United will be able to recruit two key players without either earning an unexpected profit from player transfers or a prospective takeover coming through.
