Olympique Marseille reach three-year contract agreement with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

OM are hoping to get the Gabon international on a free transfer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to join Olympique Marseille as he has reached an agreement on personal terms with the Ligue 1 side. The striker may leave Chelsea after just one season with the Blues, after he arrived from Barcelona for a 12m pound transfer fee in the 2022 January transfer window.

Aubameyang was a flop with Chelsea, he made just 22 appearances and scored only 3 goals. On top of that, he made the headlines when a wave of new signings led to him being axed from the Chelsea champions league squad. The Gabon international made just 5 starts in the Premier League last season, most of the times he was subbed of at half-time. For ex- in the game against his former side Arsenal, he was subbed off just before half-time after he managed just 9 touches, a decent portion of which were kick-offs.

With one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea and Aubameyang were eager to part ways. And with the 34-year-old striker getting variety of offers from Saudi clubs, they were considered his most likely destination.

However, Marseille have showed interest in the striker. It is assumed that OM are unlikely to give him as much playing time or as many starts as he got for his previous teams. However, they may have attempted to offset that by offering him generous terms in a three-year deal. With Aubameyang and OM both agreeing on personal terms, the plan seems to have worked.

Chelsea and OM are said to be in discussions about a transfer fee. Chelsea are looking to make some money back from the €12m they spent on him, and OM looking to get him on a free transfer.

However, with Chelsea looking to offload the striker who costs them 160,000 pounds per week, and Aubameyang already happy with the terms presented by the Ligue 1 side, the discussions are likely to lead towards Aubameyang leaving for France.
