Joe Knowles, a product of the Perth Glory youth system, showcased his potential and was rewarded with a senior contract by the club during the 2017-18 season. He made 15 appearances for Perth Glory before embarking on a move to Scotland, where he joined Largs Thistle in the West Region Premiership. During his time in Scotland, Knowles made an impressive 14 appearances and found the back of the net eight times, demonstrating his goal-scoring prowess.

Following his stint in Scotland, Knowles returned to Australian football and had spells in the lower divisions for a few years. Knowles trained with Brisbane Roar and caught their attention with his performances, notably scoring against Leeds United. The Brisbane Roar recognised his talent and eventually offered him a contract. In the 2022–23 season, Knowles made 21 appearances for Brisbane Roar in the A-League.

Knowles' journey, from his youth days with Perth Glory to his experiences in Scotland and the lower divisions of Australian football, has shaped his development as a player. Now, as he joins Hyderabad FC, he brings with him a wealth of experience and a hunger to make a significant impact in Indian football.

Type of Player

Joe Knowles is a skilled and old-school right-footed winger who excels at hugging the touchline, offering width, and providing a crucial outlet for his team. His explosive pace allows him to sprint down the line, constantly posing a threat to the opposition's defence. Whether it's delivering pinpoint crosses or playing well-weighted passes, Knowles utilises his technical abilities to create scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Despite his primary role as a winger, Joe Knowles often exhibits versatility by drifting infield, linking up with the midfielders and forwards to enhance the team's attacking play. This adaptability adds an extra dimension to his game, enabling him to contribute effectively in various positions and build fruitful partnerships on the field.

One of Knowles' standout qualities is his sharpness and presence inside the box. This was highlighted in his memorable goal against Leeds United, where his keen awareness and lightning-quick reactions allowed him to capitalise on a loose ball and find the back of the net. His ability to anticipate and react swiftly in the penalty area makes him a potent goal-scoring threat.

With his combination of skills, Joe Knowles brings a balanced attacking presence to the team, blending speed, precision, and positional awareness. His contributions as a traditional winger, coupled with his ability to make intelligent runs and find scoring opportunities, make him a valuable asset for any team he represents.

What he brings to the team

Hyderabad FC has high expectations for Knowles as he steps in to replace the influential Halicharan Narzary in the wing position. Narzary played a crucial role in propelling Hyderabad to an impressive second-place finish last season, contributing nine goals to the team's success. Now, Knowles will aim to make a similar impact, linking up with the team's talisman, Bartholomew Ogbeche, and providing valuable service.

Joe Knowles, who has previously showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the lower divisions of Australia and Scotland, arrives with a strong track record. With an average of almost a goal every two games, he hopes to replicate those impressive numbers on the Indian football scene. Hyderabad FC will rely on his abilities to provide a consistent attacking threat and contribute to the team's goal tally.

Head coach Thangboi Singto understands the importance of utilising Knowles' pace and power to their advantage. Knowles' dynamic playing style and ability to create scoring opportunities will be crucial in helping the team secure another top-four finish. Hyderabad FC expects Knowles to integrate seamlessly into the squad and play a pivotal role in their quest to finish among the league's elite teams.
