French champions PSG have joined the race to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta and will compete with Manchester United for the signing of the Danish international striker.

The 20-year-old striker was repeatedly linked with a switch during the transfer window, but Manchester United now seem to be stepping up their pursuit in response to late pressure from the Ligue 1 winners.

According to the Italian publication Calciomercato, Atalanta is reportedly seeking roughly €70 million, and while the Italian club is reportedly not supportive of Hojlund departing, they will not lower the asking rate.

That might be a problem for United, who have a small transfer fund this summer because of worries over Financial Fair Play (FFP).

The Athletic said a few months ago that their overall spending plan would be £100 million, but they have already spent more than £100 million to recruit Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

However, it appears that they will make a bid for Hojlund, and it might need to be a hefty one to deter other teams from doing the same.

Romano disclosed on Twitter that PSG had spoken with the striker's representatives multiple times this summer as they looked to improve their attack.

Lionel Messi's exit from PSG this summer has left them with no centre-forward solutions other than Kylian Mbappe and Hugo Ekitite.

Even though PSG are a potential obstacle, United will still be optimistic that they will attain their preferred priority. This is especially true given that both teams will compete in the Champions League the following year.

The Red Devils are nearing a move for the young striker. However, PSG also seem to be interested and they might try to hijack the move.
