Spain announce squad for FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

Alexia Putellas will lead the Spanish side

In Australia and New Zealand in 2023, Spain will compete in the FIFA Women's World Cup for the third time. The Iberians will also be participating in the global finals for the third time in a row after failing to make it in the previous six. Spain have announced their 23-player squad for the World Cup 2023.

Zambia, Costa Rica, and Japan will also compete in Group C alongside Spain. They will need to do better than the stage of 16 they reached in the previous Women's World Cup, where they lost to the eventual winners, the USA, by a goal margin of 2-1.

The ninth Women's World Cup is scheduled to take place in 2023. The USA, who are the defending champion and have won four titles (in 1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019), will try to continue their streak of victories.

On June 12, the Women's World Cup selection of 30 players was officially announced by head coach Jorge Vilda. Seven players have now been cut from the team: Elene Lete, Jana Fernandez, Sheila Garcia, Fiamma Benitez, Inma Gabarro, Maite Oroz, and Alba Redondo. Alexia Putellas' inclusion, however, is the big story.
