The 24-year-old midfielder has won a Champions League with Chelsea

Manchester United have finally reached an agreement for the transfer of Mason Mount from Chelsea. He becomes their first major signing before the 2023-24 season begins. The English international becomes a Red Devil for £60m, which includes a £55m fee up front and £5m worth of add-ons.

Erik ten Hag admires the player from his time at Vitesse in the Dutch Eredivisie in 2019. His inclusion will give the squad more confidence ahead of a tough season that will see Manchester United contest the UEFA Champions League as well.

Fans of MUFC are extremely excited to see Mason Mount don the red jersey and showcase his talent at Old Trafford regularly. Their excitement is justified, as the midfielder’s arrival has several benefits for the club. With that said, here are five ways how this signing would aid Erik ten Hag's men.

Creative mindset

Mason Mount is an attack-minded midfielder who regularly makes runs in the box and has the hunger to score goals. His inclusion will give Manchester United an extra avenue going forward. In a disappointing season for Chelsea in 2022–23, Mount scored three goals and four assists across 35 appearances.

He has 33 goals and 37 assists for the Blues across 195 appearances. That is an impressive tally for a midfielder who is still 24 years old and has a huge chunk of his career ahead of him. Manchester United will benefit from his prowess in the final third.

Upgrade on current options

Mason Mount is set to step straight into the starting lineup at Manchester United. He is an upgrade on the current options in midfield at the club. While Christian Eriksen is a sensational player, he does not have the legs to maintain the intensity of his performance for the whole duration of a game.

Moreover, with all due respect to players like Fred and Scott McTominay, they have failed to establish themselves and deliver consistently as starters. The combination of Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Bruno Fernandes in midfield will give MUFC balance and stability.

Adds squad depth

One of the major issues with the Red Devils during the whole of the 2022–23 season was a lack of squad depth. On several occasions, Erik ten Hag did not have enough options on the bench to change the complexion of a game or send more attacking reinforcements when the team desperately needed them.

Mason Mount's arrival will spare some of the players for Erik Ten Hag to use from the bench. He can rest key players more often and rotate them without having to sacrifice quality. Starting with Mount and replacing him with Eriksen can be one of those scenarios. Given that MUFC will contest four competitions once again, including the UCL, squad depth will certainly play a major role in achieving trophies.

Shares playmaking responsibilities

Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen often had to shoulder most of the responsibility for creating scoring chances for the forwards. With the latter’s spells of injuries and slowing pace, it fell on Fernandes to carry the weight of creating scoring opportunities single-handedly.

While the Portuguese created the most chances in the Premier League with 119, MUFC desperately needed more playmakers in the team. The 24-year-old has the quality to transition from defence to attack expertly and deliver penetrating through balls with precision.

Brings competition

Mason Mount's arrival will aid in building a cut-throat competition among the players. Such a culture elevates the level of individual performance.

Manchester United’s midfield is one of their key areas that need to deliver consistently. The fans will hope that Mount’s presence will push other players to find an extra gear in their performances and prove their worth to Erik ten Hag, who will relish the chance to work with the Englishman.
