West Ham interested in signing Scott McTominay; Man United want £40m for midfielder

The Scottish midfielder is open to joining the Hammers
For midfielder Scott McTominay, Manchester United will not settle for anything less than £40 million.
Declan Rice's replacement, West Ham, have inquired about McTominay, but they have been deterred by United's valuation of him.
The 26-year-old Scott McTominay wants to play frequently but is aware that he won't get much playing time at United next year because Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount, and Casemiro will all be starting.
The 26-year-old Scotland international is reportedly willing to consider the idea of moving to start over his professional life, but United are unwilling to sell the player for a bargain price.
United claim that Scott McTominay, a graduate of their academy, is still a vital part of Erik ten Hag's team and that they aren't under any obligation to sell him.
The club is unconcerned about McTominay's predicament because his contract won't expire until the summer of 2025 and United have the right of renewing it by an additional year.
Ten Hag sees him as a valuable backup midfielder. But in order to raise money to reinvest in the team and to stay inside the more stringent new Financial Fair Play standards, United must sell players.
McTominay, Fred, Harry Maguire, and Dean Henderson are all available for transfer, and the latter is a £30 million target for Nottingham Forest, where he spent the previous season on loan.
Anthony Elanga, a Red Devil who was judged surplus to needs, was already acquired by Forest, and a deal thought to be for £15 million was finalised on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old United Academy graduate fell out of favour under Ten Hag throughout the course of the previous campaign.
He had become a regular starter under Ralf Rangnick's disastrous tenure as interim manager after making his breakthrough under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Before the deadline on September 1, if the Red Devils sell more players, Ten Hag and company might be open to newcomers.
