What will happen if Kylian Mbappe leaves PSG for free in 2024?

The French forward will be a free agent next summer

Kylian Mbappe has been informed that if he attempts to move to Real Madrid for nothing next summer, Paris Saint-Germain will be compelled to sell several of his teammates.

Mbappe informed PSG in a letter last month that he had no plans to renew his deal, which expires in 2024. As a result, he might leave the club for free next summer, a scenario that Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club president, is keen to prevent.

Later, the France striker made it clear that he had not requested permission to transfer to Real Madrid, the Spanish powerhouses who have previously attempted and failed to sign the World Cup champion.

He has been granted until July 31 to make the commitment to remain at PSG through at least the summer of 2025; if he fails to do so, he will be transferred to the highest bidder the following month.

Secretly, PSG are aware that they are unable to force Mbappe to agree to a contract extension or to depart this summer against his will.

Mbappe's contract expires next summer, but PSG had anticipated that he would take advantage of the chance to renew it by one year, until the conclusion of the 2045–25 season.

Mbappe informed PSG last month that he would not be renewing his contract past the summer of 2019, which would allow him to sign with Real Madrid on a free transfer in July. Once Kylian Mbappé departs PSG for free in 2024, the club will experience financial difficulties.

Financial Fair Play will be affected, sufficiently so that acquiring Bernardo Silva has been put on hold until the situation is clarified. To partially make up the entire €175 million loss, many of his teammates might have to be sold.

After Macron declared he would work to ensure the forward remained in France's capital, Mbappe added that the president had no say in his professional decisions.
