Salam Johnson Singh suffers serious injury in Southern derby

The player had to be stretchered off from the field of play.

21-year-old Salam Johnson Singh sustained a pretty serious knee injury, in Bengaluru FC’s game against Kerala Blasters on the 18th of August, Friday. The youngster was having a pretty impressive game in the Southern derby, as his side were leading 2-1, despite being the weaker side on paper. 

As the game was approaching its final 10 minutes, Salam was delivered a through ball to chase on the right flank. In his quest to win the ball, young Salam collided with a Kerala defender, during which he got seriously injured, and looked to be in immense pain. The medical staff came hurriedly, and after realising the seriousness of the injury, decided to stretcher the player off. 

While the player is still being diagnosed, and no official statement has yet been made by the club, the injury looks pretty bad. 

As seen in the television, Salam looked to have his knee bent backward beyond its usual limit, due to the impact of the tackle, and it was pretty devastating to see the youngster in such immense pain.

Who is Salam Johnson Singh?

Salam Johnson Singh joined the Blues this season, after taking centre stage as the I-League’s top Indian goal-scorer in the 2022-23 season. The youngster from TRAU FC has been pretty impressive for the past few seasons now, and Bengaluru FC made a great move by bringing in I-League 2022-23’s emerging player of the season.

Salam made an impressive start to his life at Bengaluru FC, and even scored in his debut for the club against Indian Air Force. Against Kerala as well, young Salam was once again at his very best, and was performing exceptionally before getting that knee injury.

Now as we wait for an official statement by the club, let’s hope that Salam’s injury doesn’t rule him out for too long, and we can once again enjoy the magic that he brings onto the pitch.
