Brighton join race for young Spanish forward Nico Williams
The Seagulls face competition from big European clubs
There are reports emerging that Premier League club Brighton are interested in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Club.
The 21-year-old forward is becoming a regular in the Spanish national team and his impressive performances for the club have made Williams a hot prospect.
It won't be easy for Brighton to sign this talented young forward from Bilbao. The likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester United are also interested in signing Williams.
According to reports from Fichajes.net, the Seagulls are developing a reputation for producing superb talents and are reportedly interested in bringing the 21-year-old to England.
Athletic Club are looking to extend the contract of Nico Williams and they might also increase the release clause. If Williams indicates his intention not to sign an extension, Athletic Club could sell him in January, with a €30m asking price.
There are also rumours that Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have also shown their interest in this young talent. With all these clubs going in for Williams, it will be hard for Athletic Club to keep hold of him.
Nico Williams has been a regular at Athletic Bilbao in the last two campaigns. The 21-year-old has over 70 appearances in the LaLiga and has earned 10 international caps for the Spanish national team. He was also called up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Brighton brought another Spanish young talent, Ansu Fati to England on a season-long loan. It came as a shock to many as Fati was wearing the number '10' jersey at Barca and was regarded as the future replacement of Lionel Messi.
Athletic Club have failed to reach the top four and also missed Europe in the last few seasons. Nico is yet to make his European debut and will be keen on a move.
