Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich last summer window

United Secrets is able to disclose that if Harry Kane had received guarantees about his transfer to Old Trafford, he could have delayed signing with Manchester United until next summer.

After transferring from Tottenham to Bayern Munich in an agreement potentially up to £100 million on Wednesday, Kane is set to make his Champions League debut for Bayern Munich against United at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Kane had his sights set on United, though, and if he had known the move was certain to materialise, he would have completed the remaining 12 months of his Spurs contract before joining Erik ten Hag's team as a free agent in 2024.

Kane was Ten Hag's top priority, but United gave up on him this summer because of their low financial resources and inability to pay his transfer cost and salary. Kane is a 30-year-old England captain.

Harry Kane was persuaded that his chances of joining United either this year or the following were finished when Ten Hag changed his focus to Rasmus Hojlund, a younger and less expensive option. Kane finished moving to Bayern a week after Hojlund completed his £72 million transfer to United.

The owner Joe Lewis put a great deal of pressure on Spurs manager Daniel Levy to make a profit on Kane during the summer and keep him from leaving for nothing in a year. Additionally, he was hesitant to sell to Manchester United, a Premier League rival.

But if he thought United were willing to keep the possibility wide for him, Kane was willing to go against Spurs and wait another 12 months.

He scored four goals throughout five matches for Bayern, and on Wednesday night, as he plays the team that might have recruited him, he will have something to prove.
