"I jolted my knee a little bit," says Tottenham’s James Maddison

James Maddison provided two assists in his first North London Derby

James Maddison will be evaluated by Tottenham Hotspur this week; the midfielder is scheduled to undergo scans to ascertain if he had any knee injuries against Arsenal. During Sunday's 2-2 Premier League match in the north London rivalry at the Emirates Stadium, Maddison stretched out his right knee.

The £40 million summer acquisition was given extensive treatment but was eventually replaced after 78 minutes as he continued to feel some soreness.

Without the use of splints or an ice pack, James Maddison was able to depart from the Emirates, and the early indications were encouraging.

However, Spurs will conduct additional investigations on the 26-year-old, who has had an outstanding start to the season and contributed two assists to captain Heung-min Son's equalisers against Arsenal.

Following the contest, James Maddison said:

“I had a little moment when I tackled Jorginho where I jolted my knee a little bit.

“You do not want to ever be playing in a derby where you are not at 100 per cent because it can cost the team, so I had to come off for the last little period.

“I thought the lads were brilliant. We dug deep, showed quality… 2-2 may be a fair result in the end but we left everything out there and you cannot ask any more of the players.”

Brennan Johnson, a £47.5 million acquisition by Spurs, will also be evaluated. He was forced out with a hamstring injury during the second half of his debut Tottenham appearance at the Emirates.
