Jose Mourinho confirms rejecting record offer from Saudi club this summer

The Portuguese manager decided to remain in Italy with AS Roma

Jose Mourinho has reportedly rejected the biggest proposal ever in the history of football. The manager spoke in Roma's pre-match press conference.

He said: "Would I renew now? It's a hypothetical situation, I can't answer.

"What I can say is that three months ago there was almost a drama to think that I could leave.

"In Budapest on the pitch I told the players that I would stay, after Spezia I reiterated it to the fans, two-three days later I gave my word to Mr Friedkin.

"In the summer I had the biggest, most important and craziest job offer that a coach has ever had in the history of football: I rejected it precisely because of my word. Now it seems like I'm a problem, I don't accept it. I don't accept it because it's not true, I'm not a problem."

Fabrizio Romano has reported that this was an offer presented by Al Hilal and was worth €30 million. The likes of Neymar, Mitrovic, Ruben Neves, Malcom and Koulibaly joined this Saudi club in 2023.

Jose Mourinho's Roma are sitting 16th in the Serie A table. The team has only collected five points in the first six games and nearly concedes two goals per game. Mourinho has led this side to back-to-back European finals and won the UEFA Conference League.
