Liverpool and Manchester City express interest in West Ham's Nayef Aguerd

The Mrocoocn defender joined the Hammers last season
According to reports, Liverpool are prepared to compete with Manchester City for the services of West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd.
In 2024, with veteran centre-back Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk both turning 32, Jurgen Klopp will need to strengthen his defence.
Despite being only 26 years old, Joe Gomez has struggled to establish his value, and France international Ibrahima Konate, 24, has sustained numerous injuries.
According to The Sun, Liverpool are focusing on Aguerd, who plays for the Hammers. The international player from Morocco went to England for £30 million ($38 million) in the summer of 2022, and he quickly gained attention after making 33 games and leading West Ham to victory in the Europa Conference League.
In an effort to strengthen a crucial section of their roster, Liverpool are thought to have had a scouting team keep a watch on Aguerd. The 27-year-old's extensive Premier League background would allow him to fit in with the Reds' squad with ease.
However, Klopp might have competition in the race to sign Aguerd. The defending Premier League winners City have also been rumoured to be interested, but Pep Guardiola has less urgent needs at centre-half, so the City citizens may decide to forgo any bidding warfare.
As a left-footed defender who could complement the middle of the double, Aguerd was seen as an essential addition to David Moyes' back four.
Having recently joined the Hammers, a preseason injury was a significant blow and attributed to their terrible Premier League start.
Aguerd started 17 league games last year after coming back in the penultimate match before the World Cup break, where he got injured once more with Morocco.
Aguerd is expected to be at the top of Klopp's list when the next summer transfer market opens because of his remarkable performance.
