Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard signs five-year contract
The Norweigan will remain at Arsenal until 2028
After inking down a new contract, Martin Odegaard said it was an "easy decision" to agree to an extension with Arsenal. He is certain that the team can now win significant titles.
Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, has committed to a five-year contract that runs until 2028, providing the Gunners a huge advantage going into Sunday's north London rivalry against Tottenham.
The midfielder joins Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli, and William Saliba as recent significant players to pledge their future to Arsenal.
“It was an easy decision for me,” said the Norwegian. “This feels like home and what we are doing is something I really want to be a part of and to improve even more and take new steps to achieve some great things together.
“That is the big dream, the big goal, to win things with the club. That’s why I have signed here as well, because we can achieve some great things.
“What we’re doing is really special and the players see what the manager wants to do and how the club is progressing, the connection we now have with the fans. It’s a no-brainer for the players to be part of that.
“All the players want the same thing, they want to stay for a long time and really fight for the club and win things together.”
Odegaard said it was a "no-brainer" for him to remain in London and continue working on the Arsenal project with Mikel Arteta, and he has big dreams of taking the squad to the championship.
Arsenal are adamant about winning the Premier League after coming close to doing so the previous season.
They have an undefeated record so far this season, and ahead of this weekend's derby matchup, Odegaard is confident they can manage the increased pressure this year.
Odegaard, who has flourished since being named Arsenal captain last year, has emphasised the value of his teammates, especially £105 million newcomer Declan Rice.
