Mason Greenwood set to return on Football Manager game
Football Manager are considering reinstating Greenwood into the game
The creators of Football Manager intend to include Getafe attacker Mason Greenwood back into the game as he prepares to train for a comeback to football.
Although the UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped its case against Greenwood for alleged rape, violence, and forced authority in February of this year, Manchester United have been conducting a private inquiry into the matter. He refuted all of the charges.
After his initial detention on January 30, 2022, the 21-year-old was expelled from Football Manager in February 2022.
But considering that Greenwood is all set to start his professional life in Spain after his loan from United to Getafe, Sports Interactive plans to put Greenwood on to their computer game.
Sports Interactive told The Athletic: “Players or officials serving indefinite suspensions from football, for any reason, are removed from Football Manager at the first opportunity."
“When suspensions or playing restrictions are lifted, the player or official will be reinstated in-game at the next scheduled update.”
Since January 2022, when videos and pictures of an alleged sexual assault were shared on social media, Greenwood has not performed. He was then accused of trying to rape a woman, using coercive or controlling behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
After "a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction," according to the U.K.'s Crown Prosecution Service, the accusations were withdrawn in February 2023.
John Murtough, the football director. Early in August, CEO Richard Arnold also outlined intentions for Greenwood's return, but nothing ever materialised. However, a surge of backlash did, and finally, United's choice to sever their ties to Greenwood.
Now the forward has joined Getafe on a season-long loan and hopes to make reconciliation in LaLiga.
