The signings that could change the course of the season

Premier League is the only league around the world to spend the most amount of money on transfers. Clubs from across the league spent 2.7 billion Euros on transfers in this season's summer transfer window surpassing last year's record, they were also responsible for 48% of the spending across Europe's top five leagues.

The increased intensity of the competition has opened the gates for all the clubs, nearly three-quarters of the clubs spent more this season as compared to the last season. The Premier League received almost half of the transfer fees from overseas, especially from the Saudi Pro League club (SPL), which has the fifth-highest transfer spend of any league globally this season.

The top six clubs of the league have spent more money than other teams, here's a look at the best signings of the league from this summer transfer window:

Top 10 Premier League transfers of summer transfer window 2023

10. Moussa Diaby (Aston Villa)

Aston Villa's ambition to return to the top flight has been very clear, and the appointment of Unai Emery has produced better results for the club. Aston will play in the Europa Conference League this season, they embarked on a busy summer which saw them smash their transfer record to bring in Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen. Ever since his arrival in the league, he has been involved in three goals.

9. Jurrien Timber (Arsenal)

Mikel Arteta added great quality depth by signing the former Ajax player to feature in his backline. It is very difficult to catch him off guard due to his way of keeping ball possession. Things didn't quite turn out well for the Dutchman, he suffered an injury during the first match of the season, and he is likely to miss most of his debut season with the Gunners.

8. Sandro Tonali (Newcastle)

Tonali's role in Rossoneri's Serie A title win of 2021-22 shows that he may well live up to some early comparisons with the legendary Andre Pirlo. The Magpies have added variety to their new-look squad under Eddie Howe, the young Italian has settled well into the competition. He started his debut season with a goal in his first match for the club.

7. Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City)

Pepe Guardiola is always known for experimenting and very well being successful in those experiments. He played four centre-backs at the backline for most of the season, he put John Stones to play a pivotal role last season. Manchester City went for the Croatian this summer transfer window after his World Cup campaign last year. He is also one of the most promising defenders in the world right now.

6. Andre Onana (Manchester Utd)

Onana played a crucial role in Inter's Champions League run last season, he was a central figure in a season where he ended up winning the Italian Cup and Super Cup. Erik ten Hag was missing a modern-day goalkeeper who can play from the back, which is why they let go of David de Gea to make Onana the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester United.

5. Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool)

A versatile player who is able to play as a box-to-box midfielder, attacking midfielder or right midfielder was signed by Liverpool to give a new look to Jurgen Klopp's side. The 22-year-old has by far been the signing of Liverpool this year, it took him four matches to just open his goal-scoring account in the last match with just three minutes into the game against Aston Villa, he has all the desirable characteristics of a Jurgen Klopp midfielder.

4. Mohammed Kudus (West Ham)

After losing Declan Rice and being silent for most of the summer transfer window, the Hammers signed James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez to reinvigorate their midfield pivot. Kudus became another major signing for David Moyes, the Ghanaian international had a breakthrough season with Ajax in the 2022-23 season. The crafty midfielder has the potential to make West Ham more than just a resilient team.

3. Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool)

The World Cup winner has offered versatility, energy and end product to Brighton till last season. After Roberto De Zerbi hailed Alexis Mac Allister as one of the team's big players capable of playing in a big European club, Liverpool came out on top and signed another young talented midfielder after the departures of some of their marquee players. Mac Allister is certainly one of the bargains of the summer.

2. James Maddison (Tottenham)

Talking about bargains, James Maddison was one of the players plucked from the bargain bucket of relegated clubs, he joined Tottenham from Leicester this transfer window. He has transformed the Spurs midfield and suits the way Ange Postecoglou wants to play. He has been exceptional since the start of the season, he has two goals and two assists in the first four matches. Tottenham sit in the second position just two points behind Manchester City right now.

1. Declan Rice (Arsenal)

Declan Rice's final contribution as Hammer came with West Ham becoming Europa Conference League champions. Ever since that final, Arsenal and Manchester City entered a bidding war, Arsenal came out on top and made him the club's most expensive signing ever. Recently, in a match against Manchester United, he scored the stoppage time goal to make it 2-1 before Jesus made it 3-1. His impact is quite evident on Arteta's side.
