On that note, here is a look at the most expensive Premier League XI from the 2023 Summer transfer window:
GK: Andre Onana (£44.1m)

Manchester United bid farewell to David de Gea after 12 years of association and replaced him with Andre Onana. The goalkeeper cost the Red Devils £44.1m in transfer fee. He was extremely impressive with Inter Milan, helping them reach the UEFA Champions League final last season.
RB: Pedro Porro (£34.5m)
Tottenham Hotspur permanently signed Pedro Porro from Sporting CP after securing his services on loan earlier in the winter window. The London-based club had to shell out £34.5m for the talented Spanish full-back who has hit the ground running in the 2023-24 season.
CB: Axel Diasi (£38.7m)
Chelsea’s transfer window was full of excitement due to scores of arrivals and departures. Axel Disasi signed for the Blues from Monaco for a £38.7m fee. The centre-back scored on his Premier League debut against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw.
CB: Jurrien TImber (£38.5m)
Arsenal spent £38.5m to bring Jurrien Timber to the Premier League from Ajax to bolster their defence. Unfortunately for both parties, the defender picked up an ACL injury which will sideline him for multiple months.
LB: Josko Gvardiol (£77.6m)
Manchester City took the Premier League by storm by making Josko Gvardiol one of the most expensive defenders in the history of football. The Croatian centre-back signed from RB Leipzig for a £77.6m fee. His arrival will certainly add even more quality and depth to an already exceptional squad at Pep Guardiola’s disposal.
CM: Moises Caicedo (£115m)
Moises Caicedo’s transfer saga dominated most of the transfer window. The incredible tug-of-war between Liverpool and Chelsea saw the Blues secure his services after breaking the British transfer record. It took £115m to prize away the midfielder from Liverpool for the London-based outfit.
CM: Declan Rice (£105m)
Arsenal set their eyes early on Declan Rice, made him a priority target and secured his transfer by paying West Ham United a fee in the region of £105m. The midfielder is hailed as the missing piece which will make Mikel Arteta’s Gunners make a stronger challenge for the title in the 2023-24 season.
CM: Mason Mount (£55m)
Mason Mount shocked Chelsea fans by switching to Manchester United for a £55m fee. The Blues’ fanbase considered the midfielder as “one of their own” after he graduated from the CFC academy and played extensively for the club. The player cited that it was the correct time to experience a new challenge and signed for the Red Devils.
RW: Jeremy Doku (£55.5m)
Manchester City bolstered their attacking options by acquiring Jeremy Doku’s signature from Stade Rennais. The Cityzens paid £55.5m for the 21-year-old promising winger. Losing someone like Riyad Mahrez warranted a replacement and Doku is an exciting signing towards that end.
LW: Moussa Diaby (£51.9m)

Aston Villa showed a lot of ambition in the transfer window. Moussa Diaby (£51.9m) joined the likes of Pau Torres, Nicolo Zaniolo, Clemen Lenglet and more at the club. Unai Emery is determined to help the club secure UCL qualification and Diaby’s arrival in the Premier League will certainly aid in achieving this goal.
ST: Rasmus Højlund (£64m)
Manchester United finally signed a new striker this summer in order to end their goalscoring woes. Rasmus Hojlund joined the Red Devils from Italian side Atalanta for a £64m fee. It will be a huge challenge for the Danish forward to help MUFC achieve their seasonal objectives of winning multiple trophies. He would like to make an instant impact by scoring a lot of goals.
