Romeo Lavia picks up ankle injury during Chelsea training
Lavia has not featured for Chelsea since his transfer to West London
Romeo Lavia, a summer acquisition for Chelsea, underwent tests after sustaining an ankle injury during practice.
Lavia, a midfielder, slid down on his ankle during a practice session on Thursday as a result of a challenge, and his injury is being evaluated today.
Lavia, 19, joined Chelsea for £58 million last month but has not yet played.
He hadn't played or exercised much for Southampton prior to joining Chelsea, and his position there had been uncertain ever since the south coast club was relegated last season. Since joining Chelsea, he has concentrated on improving his fitness.
Chelsea, which have already seen an array of injury blows this year, will be praying for good news.
They missed defenders Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah before going on their preseason trip to America, as well as summer signing Christopher Nkunku.
After Chelsea's campaign started against Liverpool, Reece James experienced hamstring trouble in practice, and Carney Chukwuemeka hurt his knee in the defeat at West Ham last month.
Mykhailo Mudryk was additionally absent due to an injury but was back in the lineup for the team's most recent loss against Nottingham Forest.
This campaign, Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja are yet to play for Chelsea while they recuperate from hamstring and knee ailments, respectively.
Thanks to the addition of Moises Caicedo from Brighton previously in the transfer window season, the Blues don't lack for midfield solutions.
Fans may have believed expecting Lavia's arrival would have calmed things down at Stamford Bridge, though, after the west London club's shocking 1-0 Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest that night out.
With a lacklustre start to Pochettino's tenure, the result places them in 12th place in the table. The Blues' fans are hoping for a turnaround in form as they prepare to face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
