Sheffield United eyeing reunion with former boss Chris Wilder

Chris Wilder is currently managing Watford

After Saturday's loss against Tottenham Hotspur stretched their barren Premier League start to five matches, Sheffield United contacted club hero Chris Wilder about a stunning return to Bramall Lane.

With the Blades 17th in the standings after four losses and one point against Everton before to the international break, Paul Heckingbottom's job is in grave danger.

According to sources, Wilder was previously contacted about a potential return to the team where he enjoyed great success from 2016 to 2021. He guided them during that time, and in 2019, they won promotion to the Premier League.

A year and a half later, with Sheffield United in last place in the division with only 14 points from 28 games, he left the club. Despite these challenges, he continues to have popularity among club officials and supporters.

The 55-year-old has been jobless since departing Watford at the end of his short-term contract in the summer. The player accumulated over 100 appearances for Sheffield United throughout two stints.

Heckingbottom's return to the Premier League previously this year made any attempt to fire him seem cruel. Additionally, it would be inconsistent with recent statements made by their chief executive, Stephen Bettis, who backed the manager strongly.

It has been noticed, meanwhile, that the formerly tense relationship between Wilder and the proprietor, Prince Abdullah, has drastically changed recently.

It was reported that he was in the stand following a 2-1 loss to Spurs yesterday at White Hart Lane.
