South Korea have five titles in previous Asian games

A total of 18 players were chosen from K League teams, with Ulsan getting two and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors having four of the total number of players picked up. Twelve players come from K League 1 teams, six from K League 2, and four are currently signed by European clubs.

Since the Asian Games were postponed by a year owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, manager Hwang Sun-hong was entitled to choose players who were 24 years of age or younger rather than 23.

Three players who are over the age of 24 may be chosen as “Wild Cards.” Jo Hyeon-woo, Son Heung-min, and Hwang Ui-jo were chosen by then-manager Kim Hak-bum to represent Korea as Wild Cards at the 2018 Asian Games.

The football competition is scheduled to start on September 19 and last through October 7 as part of the Asian Games, which begin in September. On Thursday, July 27, a draw for the group stage will be made.

The final three or four phases of K League 1’s regular season—Round 30, which is scheduled for September 16–17, and Round 33, which is scheduled for October 8—are likely to be missed by athletes chosen for the Asian Games. Should Korea advance all through to the final, participants in K League 2 will probably miss rounds 31 through 35.
