Thomas Tuchel will miss Champions League opener against Manchester United

Bayern Munich begin their 2023-24 campaign at home

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is set to miss his side's Champions League 2023-24 opening match against Manchester United.

The German manager is suspended and won't be available on the bench following his red card in the second leg of the Champions League match against Manchester City in 2022-23.

Zsolt Lőw and Anthony Barry will replace Tuchel on the bench and in the dressing room. The coach will watch from the stands, most likely alongside assistant Arno Michels

Bayern Munich are in Group A along with Manchester United, Galatasaray and FC Kopenhagen. They are the favourites to win the group ahead of these three clubs.

The German giants appointed Tuchel as their manager in late March 2023. He led the side to the Bundesliga title on the last day of the season.

However, there have been reports emerging about a possible exit. Rumours claim that Bayern Munich are looking to replace the German manager with former player and now manager Xabi Alonso.

Xabi Alonso is currently managing Bayer Leverkusen and has impressed with the way his side is playing in the league. Leverkusen played a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena in a Friday night kick-off.

Tuchel is a very experienced manager and has won various league titles. He led Chelsea to the Champions League title in the 2020-21 season. A change of ownership at the London club created a lot of events, one of them being his removal from the managerial position.

One of the reasons why Bayern are also planning for a change is because of the win percentage. Tuchel has a 53% win rate with the German club.

Manchester United will look to take advantage of the situation and create an upset away from home.
