The Spanish defender will sign one-year contract with option to extend

As per Fabrizio Romano, Sergio Ramos has landed in Sevilla to sign his contract after the centre-back made a decision to join his old club where he transformed into one of the best centre-backs.

MLS, FC Porto, Galatasaray, and Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia were reportedly interested in signing the former Real Madrid centre-back, but he chose Sevilla because he wishes to stay near his residence, according to sources.

Sevilla hopes to finalise the deal in the next few hours. On the advice of local leaders, Sevilla's LaLiga match against Atletico Madrid was called off on Sunday due to the possibility of torrential downpours.

Sevilla, the Europa League champion from May, is currently at the bottom of the La Liga standings after losing its first three games.

Ramos starred for Sevilla as a youngster until joining Real Madrid in September 2005. He was raised in Camas, a village near Seville.

Prior to joining PSG on a free transfer in July 2021, he served 16 years at Madrid, rising to the position of club captain while winning four Champions Leagues, five La Liga championships, and one of the most memorable goals in the history of the club with his goal in the 2014 Champions League final.

Ramos departed PSG this summer after an injury-plagued debut season in Paris and a more successful second campaign. Since then, he has been weighing his options.

Two years following his last outing, the former skipper of Spain announced his retirement from international football in February after learning he was not in manager Luis de la Fuente's ambitions.

Ramos played a significant role in the Spain teams that won three consecutive international competitions, including the 2010 World Cup, between 2008 and 2012.

Ramos was questioned over how long he had been anticipating Castro's call.

“A few months or so, but happy to be returning, and well, we have time to do the press conference, and the presentation and so on.”

“It would have been pointless going anywhere else, without coming back here to play first. I think it was a debt to my grandfather, to my father, to Sevillismo, to Puerta and many things that have meant a lot. I think it was time. We’ll leave the rest for later.”
