Why Liverpool did not sign Chelsea’s Levi Colwill in summer 2023?

Levi Colwill spent last season at Brighton & Hove Albion

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool were willing to submit a significant offer for Levi Colwill if they received approval from Chelsea, but such approval was never an option because Chelsea had previously made abundantly clear there could be no negotiations for Colwill.

The highly regarded Blues academy produced Colwill, 20, but he has yet to play a single senior game for the team. But last season, the highly regarded centre-back flourished while on loan at Brighton, where he earned his English Premier League debut.

Naturally, Colwill gained a lot of fans, especially Liverpool, thanks to his spectacular achievements on the south coast. And although Colwill has recently been strongly associated with a summer transfer out of Stamford Bridge, he is about to pledge the future of his career to the Blues.

Colwill had been designated by the Seagulls as their top summer target, and Liverpool was also anticipated to increase their interest in the centre half if he had declined to enter into contract negotiations. However, Chelsea has consistently maintained that Colwill was not for sale.

However, Levi Colwill has already stated that he must continue playing competitive football after his efforts for Brighton the previous season put him in the running to be called up to the national squad.

The Stamford Bridge youngster is currently making a name for himself in the England squad, but among the Liverpool rumours earlier month, he indicated a desire to move up to the senior squad.

Prior to playing Liverpool on the first day of the season, Chelsea has now signed the 20-year-old till 2029, forcing Jurgen Klopp's team to consider other possibilities in this part of the pitch.
