Milomir Seslija also explained how the absence of Maziya's skipper affected the side.

The defending champions of the Indian Super League, Mohun Bagan pulled off a hard-fought victory against Maldivian side Maziya S&RC. Jason Cummings scored a late winner (also a brace) for the mariners and helped them continue their winning momentum this season.

Maziya looked good for the majority of the game, and handed Mohun Bagan a tough outing. Also, this is their first defeat in the AFC Cup this season, having won their opening game against Bashundhara Kings.

After the game, Maziya S&RC’s head coach Milomir Seslija addressed the media and shared his thoughts.

Thoughts on the game

The head coach started by sharing his thoughts on the game. He said that it was a tough game and his side came here to beat the Mariners. He also added that his team knows Mohun Bagan’s weaknesses and will try to defeat them in the next meeting.

“We came here to beat them. It was a good and hard game. We will try to beat them when they come to our home. Now we know their weaknesses. Sometimes football can be very cruel. Congratulations to Mohun Bagan for the win. They have great supporters,” he asserted.

Absence of captain

Maziya S&RC came into this game without their captain Asadullay Abdulla, who was not available for selection. Speaking on the same, Milomir Seslija said, “It would have been effective physically. If he was there, maybe we could have handled them by speed and physical presence."

He further added that he is very proud of his players and his side is not going to be an easy opposition to play against.

“Football is very cruel when you lose. We have improved a lot tactically. I'm proud of my players and management because we gave them (Mohun Bagan) a strong fight. We are not going to be easy for anyone. We will try to be more stronger in the upcoming matches,” he concluded.
