Gokulam Kerala FC, kickoff their I-League campaign tomorrow in the second of the double headers on the opening day of the 2023-24 I-League season. The Malabarians have significantly bolstered their squad over the summer after a difficult outing in the previous season.

The Kozhikode based side have appointed Domingo Oramas Carbrera at the helm and have made some brilliant foreign signings over the summer. The  team is one of the favorites to win the title this time with the added incentive of qualifying in ISL for the upcoming season which has always been the dream of the club and their loyal fans.

The team is set to face the stern test against the most talked about I-League debutants Inter Kashi who like Gokulam have fortified an excellent squad consisting a mix of both experienced as well as bright young players. On the eve of the fixture, Gokulam Kerala head coach Domingo Oramas and star striker Alejandro Sanchez spoke to the media. Excerpts as below

Thoughts on the game

Domingo Oramas started the presser by sharing his thoughts on the game and stated, “We spent three months for pre-season working a lot and we played at the Durand Cup. I think we played good matches, good performance. We had some problem with our grass, with Nipah virus and a few problems more. Now in the last two weeks I think we train very well and I think we are in our best moment for tomorrow match. We have a good squad, we have not any problem with any injury and I hope we can do our best tomorrow.”

Thoughts on Inter Kashi

The Spaniard then shared his views on their opponents Inter Kashi and quoted, “We have studied Inter Kashi because of friendly matches around India as well against ISL teams. They have very good players. We know a lot of players, good staff, Spanish staff as well, like us. It's going to be a not very easy match because in I-League every match is different, everything is different as well and everybody wants the same as us, win.

Alex Sanchez's thoughts

Star Spanish striker Alex Sanchez who comes with experience playing in Spanish Segunda B and Segunda division commented his thoughts on the fixture. “We've been working really well through the preseason. I think we played some good football in the Durand Cup as well. And we've been improving also the preseason as well against ISL team, against Goa, Chennai, Odisha, all of them. So I think we are ready for tomorrow's game,” he signed off.
