Sadiku, Colaco & Nassiri scored for the Mariners
Mohun Bagan and Jamshedpur FC play out one of the best games of the season so far, as the Mariners nick past the home team in a nervy tie of Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24.
The Miners took an early surprising lead, when Sanan scored a great goal from yards out. Mohun Bagan came back strong, and scored three goals across the two halves, to get themselves in a comfortable position.
10-men Jamshedpur, who saw their keeper sent off, scored a second against all odds, to reduce the deficit to just one goal, from whereon they tried to muster up an equalizer, but were very unfortunate to be left empty handed. The win gave Mohun Bagan back the top spot in the league.
Here are the ratings from the game.
Jamshedpur FC (By Keshava Verma)
Rehnesh Paramba - 7
Shielded Jamshedpur’s goal brilliantly in the first half and also made a few vital saves in the time he had in the second half. Made some great one on one as well as long range saves, but was unfortunately sent off midway throughout the second half, due to a dangerous tackle by the keeper.
Pratik Choudhary - 7.5
Worked incredibly hard throughout the game, and was solid with his blocks and clearances. Made a number of important interceptions as well, and made some surprising great runs to facilitate Jamshedpur’s attacking okay at times.
Elsinho - 7
Lost sight of Sadiku and let him make the forward run that ultimately led to Jamshepdur’s opener. Keeping the one lapse aside, the Brazilian was quite disciplined with his defensive duties.
Laldinpuia PC - 7
Was solid for the majority of the game, and kept Manvir at bay for the majority of the game.
Nikhil Barla - 6.5
Failed to track back and stop Mohun Bagan’s counter attack for the third goal, but otherwise made some forward runs, and also provided support to the defense.
Jitendra Singh - 7
Started the game off brilliantly, but slowly deteriorated as the clock ran down. Had an 83% passing accuracy, and also played a good number of long balls from his half.
Jeremy Monzorro - 8
Was exceptional in his first game back, and was crisp with his movement and passing. Made a number of chances for the Reds, and was quite hard to contain.
Imran Khan - 8
Imran had an impressive outing, and was decent with his passing. Played a number of quality balls into the box, and was decisive in the middle of the park.
Alen Stevanovic - 7.5
Was creative with the ball at his feet, and was hard to predict by the Mohun Bagan defense. Curated some fantastic opportunities for the home team, and showed great quality in the attack,
Mohammed Sanan K - 8
Showcased brilliant technique and precision to give his side the lead in the opening minutes, and was lively throughout the night. Made a great connection with the two foreign attackers, and threaded a number of quality passes as well.
Daniel Chima Chukwu - 6.5
Had another disappointing evening, as despite being involved in the game, Chukwu couldn’t threaten Mohun Bagan’s goal whatsoever, and had no shot on target.
Substitutions
Vishal Yadav - 6.5
Replaced Rehnesh in the 69th minute, and did have a lot to do. Conceded a goal in a one on one situation.
Rei Tachikawa - 7
Injected a lot of energy in Jamshepdur’s attack after coming on, and boasted great danger with every run forward.
Thongkhosem Haokip - 7
Got involved in the attack, and made himself available in the final third on every occasion.
Steve Ambri - 8
Won and converted a penalty late into the game to make the score 3-2. Hit the woodwork in the 95th minute.
Emil Benny - N/A
Mohun Bagan Super Giant (by Uttiyo Sarkar)
Vishal Kaith – 4.5
Kaith’s poor communication errors cost him multiple times. Came off his goal too easily and was made to pay for unforced errors. Made a few nice saves, but indecisiveness cost him.
Brendan Hamill – 7.0
Probably the most cool-headed and error-free Mohun Bagan SG defender. Maintained his composure to neutralize a lot of Jamshedpur’s errors, making five clearances, three interceptions and two tackles.
Hector Yuste – 5.0
Yuste couldn’t really command a compact defensive line that he usually does. Failed to cut out the communication errors and made a poor mistake giving away the late penalty. Finished the game in a really shaky manner too.
Subashish Bose – 5.0
Bose had a poor start, gifting Jamshedpur the opener with a botched clearance. Improved after that in winning many key duels, but still had the shakiness in his game.
Manvir Singh – 8.0
Manvir tormented Jamshedpur with his excellent movement and used his freedom really well. Set up the equalizer with a well-taken pass and then assisted the third too. Defensively pretty solid too.
Glan Martins – 6.5
Proactive in midfield with his tackles and ball recovery work, making 10 possession recoveries. Caught napping a few times against Jamshedpur’s attacks.
Anirudh Thapa – 5.5
Thapa couldn’t really create much from set pieces or passes, while his defensive work wasn’t the most convincing either.
Liston Colaco – 8.0
Colaco was a menace with his inward runs and played like a man high on confidence. Scored a superb goal after dummying multiple players, and did his defensive work really well with four tackles and over 10 duels won!
Sahal Abdul Samad – 7.0
Sahal excelled in that advanced no.10 role. Helped set up the opener by playing a clean past to send Manvir through and with many other defence-splitting passes.
Dimitri Petratos – 5.0
Petratos had a frustrating outing. Failed to really get past the backline and his shots were really awry.
Armando Sadiku – 7.0
Sadiku made sure he was in the right place at the right time to tap in the equalizer from close range. Then assisted Liston’s screamer too. Used his physicality, link-up play and clever movement to be a handful for the hosts.
Substitutes
Kiyan Nassiri – 7.0
Nassiri finally broke a multi-year-long goal drought in the ISL by somehow getting a goal past Vishal Yadav.
Suhail Bhat – N/A
Bhat looked bright in his late cameo, having a shot saved.
