The fourth round of the EFL Cup is set to be underway

This Wednesday, Liverpool take the trip down south to take on fellow Premier League side Bournemouth in the EFL Cup. Bournemouth had previously got as far as the quarter-finals in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 campaigns before succumbing to Chelsea's superiority, and with a daunting clash versus Manchester City on the agenda this weekend, a knockout upset would be the perfect preparation for their trip to the treble winners.

Klopp's men are looking in good form even though the defence is quite shaky but still, the Reds will be expecting a tough match against the Cherries and will look to go into the next rounds. Struggling with injuries Klopp will be giving opportunities to players who are on the bench. This will be a mouthwatering clash.

Kick-Off:

Wednesday, 1 Nov, 2023, 07:45 PM (GMT), 03:45 PM (EST)

02-11-23; 01:15 AM (IST)

Form

Bournemouth Form (All Competitions): L-W-L-L-L-W

Liverpool Form (All Competitions): L-W-D-W-W-W

Players to Watch Out

Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth)

From failing to break into the first-team mould at Chelsea to his disastrous move to Liverpool, Solanke might not have lived up to his early hype. But, at this current point in time, he’s integral to AFC Bournemouth up top. Known as a physical presence up front, a constant nuisance for defenders. After having to mature quicker than most, and with his confidence now back after a bumpy few years, Solanke is pivotal for Bournemouth as their main talismanic striker.

Wataru Endo (Liverpool)

Wataru Endo is a defensive midfielder and acts as a pivot between the defence and the advanced midfielders. His work rate is incredible which is very important for Klopp's tactics. Constantly on the lookout for danger deep in the engine room and immediately aware of the right options going forward, Endo has all of the tough, yet accurate tackling abilities and an eye for a defence-splitting pass. He will be crucial for the stability of Liverpool's midfield.

Match Facts

  • Despite their recent rise to prominence, Bournemouth are a club that has spent the majority of its existence in England’s lower leagues. As a result, the Cherries have only faced Liverpool 20 times in their 124-year history.
  • The last time Liverpool travelled down to the south coast though they wound up on the losing side with former Huddersfield Town man Philip Billing scoring the decisive goal and Egyptian forward Mo Salah missing from the spot.

Injury and Team News

Despite having a lighter schedule than their Merseyside counterparts, Bournemouth will also have several absentees for Wednesday’s game. Tyler Adams is still recovering from a long-term thigh injury whilst Ryan Fredericks, Emiliano Marcondes, Norberto Murara Neto and Lewis Cook will also miss out through injury and suspension respectively.

Jurgen Klopp will probably name a heavily rotated team for this clash. On the injury front, the Reds are still without the injured Andy Robertson who will be out for three to four months following surgery on his shoulder. Thiago Alcantara, Ben Doak and Stefan Bajcetic are also out of this game.

Predicted Lineup for Bournemouth vs Liverpool

Bournemouth Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1):

Radu; Smith, Zabarnyi, Mepham, Kerkez; Rothwell, Billing; Ouattara, Semenyo, Sinisterra; Solanke

Liverpool Predicted Lineup (4-3-3):

Match Prediction for Bournemouth vs Liverpool

Boosted by a timely injection of confidence, Bournemouth ought to play without fear in a contest where few will expect them to come out on top, which might spell danger for a Liverpool backline that remains far from impervious. Klopp will certainly not be afraid to shuffle his pack, but with an enviable selection of in-form attackers bound to begin the contest, the Reds should still prove too hot for the Cherries to handle.

Prediction: Bournemouth 0-2 Liverpool
