Despite being 39, Thiago Silva remains Chelsea's first-choice centre-back

Thiago Silva, a defender for Chelsea, has acknowledged that he is almost done playing, but he still feels pleased with his career.

Since joining the Blues as a free agent in 2020, Silva, 39, has been a fixture at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian has had successful stints at AC Milan, Fluminese, and Paris Saint-Germain in the past.

Despite being a staple in Chelsea's lineup since his arrival three years ago, the experienced defender has had a disappointing 2023–24 season. After losing four of their last ten league contests, Mauricio Pochettino's team is currently ranked eleventh.

With one year remaining on his deal, Silva is considering his options. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, he stated:

"The end of my career is getting closer… it’s not easy. You’ve to think about when you want to retire, where do you go as final club, the family, my kids play at Chelsea."

"I’m just focused on enjoying my final year of contract at Chelsea. I don’t know what’s gonna happen next year but I’m very happy of my career."

For the West Londoners, Silva has appeared in 127 games in all competitions and contributed nine goals. In addition to winning the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup at Stamford Bridge, he additionally won the UEFA Champions League in 2021.

The 23-year-old Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace may be a target for the west Londoners to bring back to Stamford Bridge. The English defender, who has demonstrated Premier League experience, is also wanted. He was a notable player for the Eagles after leaving the Blues in 2021 for a reported £20 million. In eleven matches throughout contests, he has contributed to his team's four clean sheets.
