Joao Felix earning just £6,635-a-week at Barcelona: Reports

Joao Felix has joined Barcelona on loan

Joao Felix's astonishingly low remuneration has been made public as Barcelona plans to significantly increase his income.

On deadline day, the forward transferred from Atletico Madrid to the Spanish champions on a season-long loan. He has since made eight starts in all competitions, making three goals and dishing out three assists.

But according to rumours in Spain, Felix received a paltry salary while he was at Barcelona.

According to a report from Catalunya Radio, the 23-year-old was only going to be paid an annual salary of €400,000 (£345,000) as part of the agreement. That works to a total of £6,635 a week.

Comparatively, teammate Frenkie de Jong reportedly makes £620,000 a week. Felix allegedly had to accept the conditions to close the transaction because of Barcelona's severe budgetary restrictions.

In order to pay off a rumoured £1 billion debt, the broke Catalans have been selling off properties and portions of their future TV rights income during the past year.

Additionally, Felix's contract stipulated that his pay would be increased as soon as Barcelona's financial situation permitted it. And it is currently being asserted that he will receive a 900% rise.

According to the article, Felix will now earn €4 million (£3.45 million) every year for the balance of his tenure.

His new weekly salary of £66,345 is considerably less than what he was making at Atletico, though. It is also acknowledged that his salary rise won't have an effect on Barcelona in terms of Financial Fair Play.

Felix's loan is only valid till the end of the current campaign; his Atletico Madrid contract doesn't run out until 2029.

The Portugal international was touted with a move back to the Premier League before signing with Barca.

After spending the second half of the previous season with Chelsea, Felix was reportedly sought after by a number of clubs.

However, it is reported that Manchester United declined the opportunity to sign him in the summer.
