According to sources in Spain, Lionel Messi will return to Newell's Old Boys in 2025 and has no plans to extend his deal with Inter Miami.

Since moving to Inter Miami in the summer, Lionel Messi has dominated US soccer, hitting 11 goals in his first 12 games and aiding Inter win its first Leagues Cup victory ever.

The 36-year-old has had a whirlwind of a season, and he has revived the team's prospects of making the MLS playoffs this year.

With Messi on board from the beginning, Miami will anticipate avoiding the playoff chase and comfortably making the postseason over the following two seasons, until his current deal ends in 2025.

Instead, it's said that Messi plans to depart Miami and make an emotional comeback to his old club Newell's, where he intends to call it quits on his illustrious career.

Messi made his debut with Newell's at the age of six. Before signing with Barcelona, the upcoming seven-time Ballon d'Or winner spent five years with the Rosario team he supported.

After bidding farewell to his first professional team, he went on to establish himself as one of the most influential players in football history, if not the best.

Messi is rumoured to desire to end his playing career at Newell's, which would be a setback for Miami since they probably hoped to sign him to a new contract soon.

The Argentina captain has a unique connection to Newell's and frequently expresses his desire to rejoin the team in the future.

In 2017, he remarked: "I've said many times that my dream is to play at Newell's but I don't know what will happen, and part of that doubt is due to the way the country is at the moment." This was in response to worries about safety in his native country.
