Man United set to be without Casemiro for Sheffield United clash

Casemiro has suffered a drop in form

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United now have another major injury concern thanks to Casemiro during the international break. The Brazil leader began for his nation during their third World Cup 2026 qualifying match against Venezuela in their own backyard on Friday in Cuiaba then featured in a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Eduard Bello's incredible overhead kick five minutes from time postponed Arsenal defender Gabriel's first-half header from a Neymar corner in a 1-1 draw at Arena Pantanal, which noticed the Selecao forfeit their perfect start and fall two points below rivals Argentina.

But 11 minutes into that match, Casemiro—who had started in midfield with Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle—was taken off and switched out by Fluminense's Andre Trindade, a long-time Liverpool transfer target.

Fernando Diniz, the interim manager of Brazil, later disclosed that the 31-year-old had requested a leave of absence because of an ankle issue.

The ex-Real Madrid stalwart has served as a key player for Ten Hag since heading to Old Trafford from the Santiago Bernabeu in a prominent £70 million move this past summer.

He played the full 90 minutes of each Premier League contest before being substituted for Christian Eriksen at halftime in the thrilling turnaround victory over Brentford the final time out, a move that his head coach characterised as "purely tactical."

Even though he has already scored four goals this season, Casemiro has struggled with consistency. Casemiro was responsible for Mathias Jensen's goal for the Bees in that match, just days after he was dismissed from the home Champions League loss to Galatasaray for two bookable offences as he attempted to make up for a major mistake made by custodian Andre Onana.
